At Emma Bridgewater, they like making things that make everyday life a little nicer. It all began in 1984 when Emma was looking for a birthday present for her Mum that could express her love and appreciation. Emma created a collection of colourful and mismatched pottery to capture the spirit of her mother’s North Oxford kitchen. Emma Bridgewater was born from this vision and has created classic modern pottery for over three decades. They believe everyday kitchen China holds personal stories, reflecting shared moments, and each design is a deeply felt personal response to what they love in the world around them.
All their pottery is made from cream-coloured earthenware in their factory in Stoke-on-Trent. Around 230 people work at their factory site, and to support the increase in customer demand, they opened a second factory site in 2021. On a factory tour, you can see the traditional skills and craftsmanship that go into every pottery, with over 1.9 million pieces produced yearly and over 72,000 personalised mugs made in 2022. 30 pairs of hands touch each piece before it reaches a customer.
In recent years, they have expanded beyond pottery, offering designs on glass, tins, picnicware, stationery, wallpaper and fabrics, and their collection of candles and home fragrances. Emma Bridgewater’s conversation from 1984 continues, with customers now part of it.
