About National Trust

In 1895, Octavia Hill, Robert Hunter, and Hardwicke Rawnsley established the National Trust to protect historic and natural sites, pledging to preserve them for public enjoyment. Their vision remains central to the organization over 125 years later.

The National Trust is a conservation charity responsible for safeguarding over 350 historic houses, 160 gardens, 780 miles of coastline, and 254,000 hectares of land with exceptional natural beauty across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Its mission is to make these sites accessible to everyone, ensuring their enjoyment for generations to come.

The charity is dedicated to the principles of nature, beauty, and history. With nature and historic environments under increasing threat, the National Trust works tirelessly with its staff, members, volunteers, and supporters to preserve these invaluable places. They provide access to the beauty of the natural world and significant historical sites, enriching lives and strengthening the social fabric.
