The History of Pride Month

The history of Pride Month goes back to the Stonewall Riots in 1969. This uprising became a historic turning point in the LGBTQIA+'s battle for the human rights movement. In June of 1970, the first Pride March was held to commemorate the Stonewall Riots, led by the "Mother of Pride" activist Brenda Howard. During this time, it was called the Christopher Street Liberation Day. This historic event paved the way for what we now know as Pride Month. Since the Stonewall Riots broke out in June of 1969, June became the designated official month for Pride.

Pride Month is a significant event that celebrates the entire LGBTQIA+ community and those who support them. It is a time for them to raise their flag proudly and share their identity, history, and culture. Happy Pride!
